Feed My Sheep Program
Feed My Sheep is a feeding program in which the Redeemer Community Care Team joins with Alum Creek Elementary School to supply supplemental weekend food for Charleston, West Virginia area children living in food-insecure households.
Currently, the program assists approximately 30 children.
Additionally, through the Feed My Sheep Summer program Redeemer assists the same families over the summer school break with monthly food baskets.
Ways to Help
Donate supplies:
Donations provided from a list help fill the weekly food packs during the school year. During summer months, a different list is used to fill monthly baskets which help with food needs when children are on their summer break.
Donate money:
All monetary donations are appreciated and are well used to purchase fresh fruits and healthy snacks for the weekly packets. Designate “Feed My Sheep” in the memo of your check or on the electronic form. A donation of $150 will cover the food needs for one child for a school year.
Volunteer:
Groups and individuals may prepare one week’s supply, or pack the entire month at once. This is a great way for (your share group, civic group, etc) to spend approximately one hour to pack an entire month. To get involved with preparing weekend food packs, Contact the church.
There are also opportunities to deliver packages to the school. A sign up sheet is located in the Connection Area at the church.

We coordinate with local aid agencies to receive Christmas gift needs for anonymous local children whose families receive our Holiday Food Baskets.
We provide school backpacks filled with school supplies to children in need at local elementary schools, including Alum Creek Elementary

We coordinate with local aid agencies such as Heart and Hand to provide food baskets to needy families during the holiday seasons — Thanksgiving and Christmas.
From time to time, needs in the community arise for which we respond to help Charleston area neighbors. These needs may be as extensive as wide-spread disaster response or as simple as minor home repairs.
Undie Sunday occurs a few Sundays per year and involves the Redeemer Community Care Team collecting and providing new children’s and adult underwear garments to local shelters in the Charleston, WV area.

I am from Summit Station, a small village of 174(in 2017) in PA. We moved to Reading, PA in 1982 where I met my husband, Ron. We lived across the street from each other. We got married in 1989 and have been blessed for 30 yrs.
Saturday, February 1, 2020, fifty-six golfers braved the soppy weather to compete for a good cause at Coonskin Park Disc Golf Course. Disc golfers’ efforts raised $1400 to benefit Redeemer Lutheran Church’s Feed My Sheep Ministry.

Grew up in Fairmont, Minnesota; graduated from Carleton College in Minnesota and went to graduate school at Purdue University (Ph. D. in Chemistry). Moved to Charleston in 1977 to work for Union Carbide. Nancy and I met at Purdue and we married in 1978. I retired from Dow Chemical in 2013. Nancy works part time from home doing bookkeeping. Our daughter, Amanda, is a paramedic in Morgantown. Our son, Eric, is a construction inspector in Columbia, Maryland. Onyx, our black cat, keeps us entertained at home.
