I'm from right here in South Charleston, WV. I taught k-12 music in both Kanawha and Grant Counties in WV and upon returning to Kanawha County became an Elementary Music Specialist until I was forced to medically resign in 2012. No spouse or kids, but I like to say I have many kids if I count all the kids I've had the privilege of working with in both public schools and here at Redeemer. I also have at least partial custody of a silly little white cat named Sookie who makes regular appearances on Facebook!
Read MoreWhat does an Old Testament prophecy have to say to us today? From Sunday’s Old Testament lesson: “And I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd. And I, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them. I am the Lord; I have spoken.”

Born in Welch, WV, grew up in Glenwood, WV, transplanted to Charleston in 2014. Work at CAMC Memorial. Married to my best friend that it took me 44 years to find. Thankful to get to spend the rest of my life with him. Timothy is my only birthed child. He and his family are the other loves of my life. Bentley and Charlotte are the greatest kids in the world because they are my gbabies and they melt my heart. Maggie Mae is our canine child together and she is the most spoiled dog on the planet, besides the Lilly family dogs.
Read MoreIn our gospel lesson this week, Jesus says, “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.”And that’s not all. He goes on to say, “any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be My disciple.”
These are difficult words to hear from Jesus. Not much “safe space” in HIs words, are there? But is that really the case? There’s more hope there than may meet the eye.
